Question for ebay sellers

Been many years since I sold anything via da 'bay - after posting an auction and receiving confirmation of the listing, do sellers get any additional notices (via ebay messaging and/or email) during the run of the auction - like whenever a bid is placed, or a periodic update on the status, etc. - or do you just get one more notice after the auction closes?

Reason I'm asking is that I just won a socket set pretty cheap. 1/2 an hour after it closed I got an email from the seller saying "don't bother paying, item won't be sent, listing was a mistake, Sorry". I'm fairly certain, due to the quick timing of the email, that it's a very infrequent seller who's not happy with the selling price, so he's claiming stupidity in listing as an excuse for not following through.

My intention is to burn his @ss with a negative and report him to fleabay for a fraudulent listing or whatever. He's got a total feedback of 6 over the past 3 1/2 years, with only 1 in the past year (as a buyer), so a neg oughta put a good dent in his 100% satisfactory rating (based on 1 positive in the past 12 months). I'd just like to know if he would have received multiple notices during the run of the auction when bids were placed - there were a total of 5 bids over 3 days - so I can throw a little more fuel on the fire in my reply to him and report to ebay.

Believe it or not, I'm not a vindictive sort of person, and have let a few other sellers claiming "oops, I fouled up" excuses to slide in the past, but this one just sticks in my craw, mostly because of the blunt email and the timing.

No notices are sent that I know of. the situation does sound fishy, especially if you got the item for 99 cents or another really low price.

He knew exactly what he was doing,on the active selling page it allows you to keep track of bids placed, watchers, time left,etc...

He's just mad because it didnt meet his expectations, which seems foolish considering you have the option to set a reserve price.

I'd definitely let him know it wasn't appreciated

I'm all for helping new ebayers just getting started. We were all there once. But I try to stick with experienced sellers that have plenty of feedback. Transactions with sellers with low feedback are not always protected by ebay or PayPal.

When you have listings, you'll usually frequent your "My ebay" page a lot. There you'll see bidding activity, page views, number of people that are watching your auction, questions on your items.

Notify ebay, give him a negative and move on.

Blast him with all options open to you, Keg!

He's just a scumbag trying to weasel out of a deal he feels didn't go his way. There's NO excuse.

I've been doing the bay thing for 10yrs now and if I put something on at .99cents I'd better be willing to let it go for that. I've noticed a huge decline in nicer/more expensive items not being listed as nobody wants to blow any $ anymore on "stuff", and your wasting listing $ doing so. Even the sales on the classifieds here are slow. It still holds true, buyer be ware on the bay.

I'd flame his ***. But let him know what you intend to do before you do it.

Give him one more chance to make it right is my advice. If he doesn't, flame on.

You bought in good faith, He needs to step up and do the right thing unless he can prove to you that it was truely a mistaken listing. He had a week (or what ever time it was listed) to withdraw the listing before it ended.

Yeah, I did send the seller a civil email (via ebay) asking him to confirm and explain his attempt to back out of his obligation to complete the sale, which he agreed to when listing the item. I gave him an out saying if the email was in error, to confirm that and payment would be on the way. We'll see what happens, but Little Boy II is being prepped and the B-29 "Monkey Wrench" is warming up its engines...

I've already reported him to fleabay, for all the good that will do. For as few transactions as he's completed over the years, I'm virtually certain he'll either ignore me or come back with a smart-@ss reply.

You should make payment anyways, if the item isn't sent, you can open a "item not received" claim, also, paypal should refund you if used. This way, he can't file a non paid item claim(forgot the exact name). You can also leave neg feedback.

File a non performing seller report with ebay. I'm not 100% positive how this all works but you might have to pay in order to burn him good. But don't worry if you pay threw paypal you will get your money back pretty quick. Then you can leave negative feedback and hit his detailed seller rating stars, all 1's is the lowest. I think ebay suspends sellers for 30 days if they get all 1's on the stars. I can't stand sellers that back out of the sale because the item sells cheap, ebay is supossed to be a legal binding contract when you bid on something.
