my question here is about mounting hardware for Harley davidsons. I have the quick release hardware on my breakout for the wife's rear seat backrest. It has two plastic cam locks that click in to my sideplates. I'm going to make my own brackets to slide onto the front pegs, and hold my AMMO BOXES to use as saddlebags. Where can I get JUST the plastic cam locks to install on my brackets? Harley parts desk said there is no part number for them. And I can't find any from a wrecked bike online. What other methods of "quick detaching" could I use? Thanks in advance.

Maybe they just don't like me at the dealer. I asked if there was an exploded parts diagram or similar so I could order them. For $80 I can get the black metal locking pieces and swap one out with the backrest so they both have one lock. The price of the metal locks are more than I've spent to get the ammo boxes, sand blast, create brackets, weld, and ceramic paint them.

Have you got a picture of the cams and locks? ...or a URL? Maybe someone will have an idea that might help.

First of all, why ammo cans? A customer of mine did the same thing 2 years ago, only because he was cheap and wanted saddlebags. One day while riding a canyon road at high speed, one of the boxes came loose, causing a high speed wobble, lost control, went off the road into a parked trailer and is no longer with us. There might be a reason HD doesnt sell the hardware seperarately, like to keep people from doing such nonsense.

Back in the bad old days there were plenty of ammo can ssaddlebags. I never saw a set on quick disconnects. For what it's worth the real trick was reinforcing the ammo cans.

Softailgarage: a saddlebag coming loose caused a high speed wobble? Hmmmmm

I've already had the rear axle nut fly off the bike going 80mph. (look it up the breakout has no clevis pin like any other model does) I didn't notice until we stopped and my buddy asked what almost hit him in the face. The front brake lever broke within the relay and had to be replaced. The throttle line stuck when I made a right turn. The fuel idiot light was inoperable. For a 2014 model, I trust my fabrication skills as much as I do the HD team.

And why ammo can:
I like the look of hard metal and latches rather than leather and rivits, or fiberglass. It will be ceramic 1900 degree painted so it matches the exhaust and air cleaner EXACTLY. plus it will be close to the exhaust. And when I have my tools, guns, ammo, clothes etc... I will be able to click a latch, stack the two cans on top one another and carry them into a building without opening them in order to keep them water tight. I will dig away the snow tonight to get the my bike and get some photos of the mounting hardware, mounting points, and measurements of my plans. I might have to design and water jet some parts if I can't find anything.

I've seen some quick detach latches for ammo boxes on another site. Of course those links are all on my OLD computer that lost the graphics card. I need to go pop the hard drive and copy all that stuff over to this one.... I'll see if google can help me. As I remember they weren't very expensive.

Thinking about welding studs (1/4" Id x 1/4" length) onto the side of the ammo cans. (As well as more reinforced brackets). The brackets I make for the bike will have holes. That way the studs on the can will fit into the holes on the bike to line everything up and hold them so they dont move in travel. A metal latching system can wrap around the boxes similar to a leather strap. A small pad lock can be placed through the latch. A plate will sit over the rear fender like a battery tray and sturdy the two cans by providing some extra support as well as serving as a tie down for extra luggage. I took a look at the dealer once again and saw the release systems on their $900 and figure something more simple can be made.
