Question for professional plumbers

What is the most commonly used piping and fitting system used today in residential buildings ? You can break it down into new construction, patch/repair, and complete existing structure re-plumb.

I also find it interesting that compression fitting never seem to have caught on. They are popular in EU, but maybe that was because of restrictions on using open flame for copper pipe soldering.

Have copper crimp fitting caught on much in either residential or commercial work ?

Short answer - PEX.

Copper crimp never caught on here because PEX took over for the majority of residential construction.

We have some crimped copper in a radiant heat system. Works wonderfully well.

Copper crimp was used for all plumbing on a new construction of an elementary school I was just at. The refrigerant lines I installed for the walk-in cooler/freezer were brazed with 15% silphos. Copper crimp is being used for refrigerant lines too....just not by me.

I do remodeling, and all the plumbers around us use the Uponor wirsbo propex stuff. Seems to be the most fool proof pex system.
