I'm presently building a detached 24'X36' garage. It will have a 10'X12' area in the back corner walled off for a bathroom and small storage room. The bathroom will primarily serve as a batroom for our pool to keep outside entertaining outside and the storage room will house some cabinets and a fridge with a locking door to the main garage area to keep kiddies off car, truck and motorcycle. I bought a Mr. Heater 45,000 BTU Propane Heater for heating the main garage area when I'll be out there for a while and a commercial fan for the summer, with a double 8' garage door on one 24' wall and a single 8' garage door on the opposing 24' wall, I should get plenty of cross ventilation to work. My problem is the bathroom area: What I really want is a small through the wall PTAC unit or a mini split system. The PTAC system seems to be a little cheaper. Every HVAC person I talk to tells me "what you really want to do is put in a wall heater and a window unit AC"
. What I really want is to keep the area as uncluttered and aesthetically pleasing as possible, cool in the summer and just warm enough in the winter to keep the pipes from freezing, in VA a AC/Heat Pump option seems the most feasible. Anyone have experience with a PTAC or mini-split system and care to provide some feedback...
