I've got a 32x28x12 with 32x12 storage attic. Used 2x6 construction and will be fully well insulated. I"m planning a 24k btu mini-split for the garage and a 9kbtu for the attic.

I'm running the power to the outside disconnect boxes and planning 10 gauge 3+g for the 24k and 12 awg 3+g for the 9kw.

Question - do all the interior units get their power from the outside unit or do some need a separate interior power source? Need to do this before insulating!

Question - with the 2 x 6 walls I'm thinking of running the lineset, drain line and all cabling inside conduit in the wall (taking it in just above the sillplate). Anyone see any problems with this?

Thanks!
Tom

You're not going to like this answer - but some do, some don't. Most of them, however, do power the indoor unit from the outdoor unit but have differences related to how many signal and power wires they use (some require four conductor with ground, some 2 with ground). If you at least pick the model you want to use now, you should be able to download an installation manual and get it setup properly.

No problem running everything in the wall. Just be sure your linesets AND your drain line have good insulation that is sealed and taped at seams to further reduce the chance of air movement getting to the lines. They will otherwise possibly sweat and create havoc in your wall if they are not insulated well.
