Putting up a new building and I am going to run the water line through the foundation and leave it sticking up higher than the finished floor grade to be hooked up at a later date. Same thing on the other end. I was thinking about leaving it out from the wall about 3-4 feet and put a ball valve on it and putting it in some type of box. Seems like this would make it easy to hook up at a later date and be able to turn the water off when needed. I am in NC so freezing is not that big of concern I would make sure it is deep enough for that not to happen. Any thoughts on this set up. Would you use copper ( rolled or rigid ) or black plastic water line. Would 1/2 or 3/4 be best. It will just be for a water hose.

Depending on main pressure or well pressure, and lay-out of the property (length of the line) I would run at least 1". From a supply standpoint it is always best to have more to play with than less. Who knows what the future holds? Also, in the same tone, put empty sleeves under sidewalks and driveways an securely cap them off. You then have options for extending lines or adding other underground services. The curb box is a good idea.

1 inch cts (copper tube size ) poly plastic at 200 psi is what we install under ground on all new homes. 40 inches down is code in NJ for frost

If I am reading this right you are asking how to rough it in prior to pouring. I would cut a piece of 2" PVC and stub it up through the foundation so you can feed 1" plastic tubing up through it later wnen you run your main. It will protect the tubing and allow for at least 1 less fitting during the final install.

in new construction we run a 2" pvc pipe through the wall and then run the 1" plastic line through, this is the exact location where the main will be installed so about 2' of extra line sticking out is plenty. just make sure to patch and tar around the pipe or else water will make its way in

On my son's build we put in 4" PVC pipe from the house to the barn with a rope in it, bringing it up through the barn floor. Around here, water needs to be about 4 feet down. Later we pulled a new rope and a 3/4 PEX water line through it. The new rope is there for the next think we have to pull.
