I've been checking the snap on website periodically and there is no longer a link to order the printed catalogs. Have they stopped selling them? I have the last 6 or 7 catalogs, and I've been looking forward to the next one.

Buy enough and they'll give 'em to you..

Sometimes you're better off paying the ten bucks..

Probably because the cat1000 is soon to be replaced with a new one. I am hearing that it will be within the next 2 months. Keep in mind though that they have repeatedly missed target dates for catalog releases. When the cat1000 was realeased we were told then that they were going to release a new catalog every year. That was around 2 years ago.

I sure hope your dealer did not charge you $5.

My Snappy guy says catalogs are the only thing he gets for free from SO. He said he doesn't even order price sheets any more because SO juices him for them and everyone checks prices on the internet anyway. I tend to agree . . .

I could do without the price list too, as I do what every one else does and look it up on line, however, it is interesting to see what tools sold for in years past. That said, I would pay for the price list.

Snappy's website is OK. Better than most, but I still like having a hard copy.

The catalog has a $2 list price in my computer. Dealers get them free. I would be surprised if they charge that much for them.

If the distributors get them for free, I would hope that they don't charge anything for them.

By the way, how was your trip?

I asked my dealer for a catalogue , just before christmas. He told me that he could not give me one as " Snap on and the sponser for their catalogues, Doug Herbert, the drag racer had fallen out and they were in talks to find a new sponser." He reckoned there should be a new catalogue available in april. He normally carries cataloues in his truck and gives him out for free to customers.

plewlandsbob he was right. they had to pull out the doug herbert dragster picture.

I have about 5 cases and they are free to me. dealer just needs to order bndcat1000 to get a new case. I give one or two out daily. Price sheets are expensive, they used to send 100 of them with each new catalog release, but the last pack only had ten....
and the bndcat1000 is not on www.snapon.com

Got two catalogs from my dealer this week.He had a rep on the truck that said the new cat should be out in May.Oh and they were free on the truck.I've been getting catalogs since the eighties and have never paid for one.Used to have quite a collection of Mac and Snap on until the ex wife threw them out during the divorce.

i have never paid for a catalog. i think assigning a price to a catalog is just for the bean counters (so the have a figure to write off).

I'd love to have a catalog. I have been wanting try some wright stuff too. I love tool catalogs. It is almost sad how much time I spend just browsing through them. :bounce:

If you would like a Wright cat. 82, just shoot me a PM (some of you have already) with your address and I'll get one sent out to you this week.

Charging for a catalog keeps most of the looky, looky, crowd away.

Just like when Snap on would advertise in Hot Rod magazine, can you imagine the flood of requests they got from high school Harries, and other assorted dreamers?

Another good example is the McMaster-Carr catalog, can you imagine what that costs to print, then imagine the demand if they were to hand them out to every Tom's, ****, is Harry, that just has to have one. 99.9 percent of the recipients would NEVER be heard from again. The same can be said for Grainger.

In fact, IIRC, most of the speed equipment companies did charge for their catalogs, I imagine for that very reason. The issue is solved by refunding the price of the catalog with the first order.

If I want a free catalog, I don't mind buying something in exchange.

As it is, my 'off-brand' tool (Cornwell and MAC), and my hardware, or specialty catalogs came from eBay, as did my Snap on industrial catalog. My Snap on and Matco catalogs came from the dealer, as do my NAPA ones.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
A few weeks back I went to the MAC tools website and they want $5 for a catalog and then $7.75 to ship it to you, plus tax equaling a total of $13.77 for their catalog. No, thanks MAC has been removed from my list of where to buy anything, and I was seriously looking at one of their utility carts.
