Toying with the idea of putting in a ceiling mounted propane heater. How long does a 100 lb tank last? I'm trying to get an idea of what I'm going to be spending for propane. Thanks Keith
Keep in mind there are charts that list vaporization rates for various tank sizes drawing various amounts of propane. In the winter a 100 lb tank may not be large enough to run a 30K heater. And of course the tank needs to be outside where its cold.
For example, for me to run a 24 HP 8KW propane generator in the dead of winter I need a 250 gallon tank (not pound). A lot more than one would think.
I have a 40x60 insulated building in western NY with a 100K BTU propane hanging heater. It uses 2-200 lb. tanks and I keep it about 50 degrees, and I can almost get a whole winter from one fill.
I only go to the building on weekends, and last winter I installed a wood burning furnace. With that burning on the weekends, I can now go through the winter with one fill and some left over.
I will only be heating the 32x10 8' ceiling section of my shop that holds the machine shop. It is insulated. I was also looking at one of those dual head burners like this:
I think that would heat the small area pretty well. Any thoughts? Keith
Not understanding what you mean there Highbeam. I have used these before while we where building the horse barn. The mercury in the thermometer went up. We had 3-4 of them running in the bottom of a 60'x100' barn. Think the temps were in the low 50's inside and was in the low teens outside. Keith
