i bought an old theodolite, 1927 model. that what the guy told me. i want check for level. so if i get 200 ft of cleat tubing, fill with water and hang here and then hang other end there, then both mednius be the exact same elevation, huh?

Yep. Water is self-leveling. You don't need 200 ft. of clear tubing, just two clear pieces and a half-dozen garden hoses.

Getting ALL of the air out of the hoses is the most difficult part of using a water level.

It's still dead-on. I compared it to a modern Total Station to check.

I hung thousands upon thousands square feet of Suspended ceiling using a home made water level . nothing more than a windshield washer bottle, a brass tire valve and about probably 75' of clear vinyl tubing . very accurate way of finding level .
