Question on AutoEnginuity Scanner

I am looking into buying an inexpensive scanner ($500 or less) that will allow me to view live engine sensor data. The AutoEnginuity looks decent for the price but I noticed there are expansion packs for each make. Are these required to view engine data or are they for additional systems like ABS, Transmission, Etc...

The base product gives you the basic sensors. If you want the majority of the engine sensors and all of the drive train info you need the expansion pack.

What he said is true. AutoEnginuity will allow you to do basic OB2 on all makes and models but to do OB2 enhanced you need to buy the individual packages or the bundles....

The enhanced packages give you bi directional. Probably not as good as the factory tools.

I couldn't afford a Tech II - even used - to deal with my 6.5L diesels. I got the AE as a Christmas gift from my wife, and I have yet to find anthing I could do with the Tech II that I can't do with the AE.

And their customer service can't be beat!

What about asian coverage? I know some companies have awesome domestic support then horrible asian coverage

save up and get a maxidas ds 708 it will scan obd2 and pre obd it scans everything i hooked it up to i got myne direct from china $1200 but it makes me at least 30$ a day today it made me 100$ scanned a AMG Benz it told me the hydro pump for the roof was open circuit pop the trunk look at the pump , the power plug is not all the way in clip it in roof works 100$ and thank you

It looks like it lacks Bi Directional control though.

I've considered the auto enginuity too. I work maintenance for a fleet of chevy diesels, and sometimes it's a pain to send something to the dealer. The active command is a big deal for my next scan tool. Which when I looked into the scanner, the AE had. When the time comes, that's probably the scan tool i'll be chosing.

I would think that MaxiDAS should support bi-directional control.

The scan tool itself does not perform the leak test, but commands the vehicle’s on-board

Test, refer to the vehicle service manual for instructions to stop the test.

1. Highlight the Component Test.
2. Wait a few seconds while the scan tool validates the PID MAP.

Interestingly, the phrase "bi-directional control" is not in the document. The glossy brochure claims that the unit supports "Active Tests" and "ALL 9 test modes". What is not known about the unit is how much of manufacturer specific support is built-in.

Also does the AE enhanced tell you temps of transmission fluids like the techII does so you can correctly check trans fluid levels at correct temp like GM says you have to?

I doubt that will happen. The reason why is there is 2 ways to have a scanner do the bidirectional. Either the company reverse engineer's what the factory tool does or the company that designs the scanner pays for the interface protocols from the vehicle manufactures.

I *think* AE does the reverse engineering and Snap on does the paying, but i may be wrong. Either way it gets expensive vs. ODBII since the standard is public.

Love it
