You guys are fulll of ideas so I have a question that will seen stupid to some of you. Several years back I gave my son a craftsman socket set. He was killed 4 years ago. set is 3\8,s ansd1/4 in in a black vinyl case. I now keep this on my work bench to use for whatever at bench to keep me from wheeling across shop to tool box. When I open case up now sockets fall all over as stretch band inside has wore out and is to loose to hold sockets. Simple thing throw them in box and keep using. Really don't want to for sentimental reasons I guess. Any of you folks have an idea to tighten up pockets, or just **** it up and box em? Set is Craftsman 33853 if that helps.Paul

Could you buy some cheap metal rails and cut them to length? So long as you put the rails on the opening side of the case and don't carry the case "spine-up" I think gravity would keep them all in place.

You might be able to cut the stitching and replace the elastic straps.
I'm sure new elastic is available on ebay or in a craft store of some sort.

Other wise... I will just add the Gearwrench plastic sockets rails are by far the best I've ever used.
If all else fails, you might give them a try.
