I have a project where I need to secure a wood floor in a container using DIN 7504 Torx countersunk self drilling plated steel (not stainless) screws. Screw diameter is 5.5mm (about 7/32”), the substrate is S355 steel 4 mm (about 5/32”) thick. I have not used these fasteners before, I understand that they can be drilled straight into the substrate, although this might be for thin materials only? in my application, in a production environment, is there an advantage to drilling pilot holes first?
