Question on Floor Grinding Timing

Working on about a 1,000 sq. ft. area with concrete that's probably 30 years old. The plan was to grind the entire area then put epoxy down within a week. We ground the concrete but unfortunately needed to order more material to make sure we had enough coverage. Between the time of grinding and now getting enough epoxy to do the job it got really cold. The area is heated, but the concrete temps around the garage doors are under 50 degrees which is too cold for the epoxy.

My question is regarding waiting until Spring to do the epoxy. If we keep the concrete clear of any grease or other material that may stick are there any issues of waiting 3 or 4 months for the concrete temperatures to rise? Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks.

If you are parking in the garage it’s going to get dirty. So plan on cleanup with air and vacuum to get the dust and dirt out of the pores of the concrete. Definitely put down cardboard and tarp under center of car at least for drips. Dangerous to walk on though. Might get lucky with a warm day in the next few weeks

Thanks for the guidance! There won't be any cars put in until after the epoxy is down, but there are a couple tables saws making sawdust. I don't have it completely covered in cardboard, but I'm going to tomorrow.

Just keep it clean, vacuum well and you should be fine. Consider Red paper or Ramboard type covering to protect from spills and such. Paper may not be thick enough.

Totally agree on the planning snafu. Unfortunately, there are lots of moving pieces on the project with this floor being one of them. Some setbacks on other aspects of the project ended up pushing everything out much later than I wanted or anticipated. Definitely presenting some challenges!
