question on garage size

I have an offer on a home with a three car garage. It is 31 wide by 20 deep. What I am trying to do is store four cars in it and wondering if you guys think it will be likely. I have two 90 mustangs, a miata and a hyundai santa fe. No I haven't measured all of the cars yet.

If you can get the Miata parallel parked on the 31' wall, I think you'd have a shot.

They are all small cars, but that isn't much space for 4 vehicles. Measure them. If they are all short enough, you might be able to stuff them in sideways and two wide. If not, your best choice would be to put in a lift and store two of the like bunk beds. This way, the other two would be accessable every day.

basically the miata and the mustangs aren't driven much. I just need a little room for the wife to get her suv in and out everyday. I was even thinking on getting the 4 jack setup to move the cars around. But no room to install a lift.

I stack'em but my shop-garage has 14' walls and I use 4 post lifts to stackem on. I figured that a couple of $2000 lifts were cheaper than building a another2 car garage. The big plus is that I can use the lifts to service, pull transmissions, brakes etc. in comfort. I roll around under the car on the lift in a office chair on casters and it makes the work fun.

yeah they'll most likely fit 4 across - but getting them in place and you in/out of them might prove tricky.

They'll physically fit alongside one another but there'll be little room for manouvre/servicing etc.
Leave the High 'n' Dry outside and keep the toys in the garage.

That won't fit if your wife wants her doors to open once she's in there.

I would say add a lean-to style carport, right away.

In fact, I'd also try to get a four post lift. That way, you might actually have some space in there for workbenches.

I say this because you want to get these expenses in right away, instead of getting in the long line of 'unanticipated' purchases that come in the wake of a new house. The back of that line can mean years of waiting.
