Like someone mentioned, a GM drum brake spring tool. I've got the same tool from MAC. You can get the spring off with a large screwdriver, but you'll never get the new one back on without one of these. Found out the hard way on my kid's '99 Grand-Am.

I don't know as I'd go "enjoyable" but I would believe "much easier".

No, it's a piece of round bar shaped kinda like a W. You can make it out on the bottom half of the picture you posted.

It was worse on the Range Rover Classic and Discovery One.

Brake jobs are a walk in the park compared to needing such a tool.
