Like someone mentioned, a GM drum brake spring tool. I've got the same tool from MAC. You can get the spring off with a large screwdriver, but you'll never get the new one back on without one of these. Found out the hard way on my kid's '99 Grand-Am.

That tool is the cat's ***! You spread the spring and slide the shoes out from under it. Grind a screwdriver into a parking brake cable fishing tool and brake jobs on these systems actuall become enjoyable!

I don't know as I'd go "enjoyable" but I would believe "much easier".

Yet another reason I'm glad I work on a single brand of vehicle and they are simple to fix!
