Question on How to Make Sheetmetal Patch

Hello,

I am trying to patch and reuse a core support and need the following piece (please view attachment). How would I go about putting the recessed channel in throughout the 90 degree bend. The bends are not quite sharp 90 degrees, there is a small radius to them. Is this what a shrinker/stretcher would be used for?

you should ask that question at metalmeet.com
there are a couple of ways to do that.
1 you could make the part in 3 pieces. 2 straight sections and the radius section

2 you could make a long straight section and then cut the flanges out where the bend will be. make the bend and then mobify the removed pieces before welding them back in

3 you make this over a hammer form. I think you will have to use heat to make the shrink on the flanged sections.

a stretcher/shrinker will not work for this

If I understand your drawing correctly,
the top hat section does a 90 deg bend with the narrow section on the out side.

The simplest way to make this is to bend the centre section (2 x 90 deg bends)
Then use a Shrinker to form the main bend by shrinking both sides.
then cut the centre of the sides out where the bend is & then turn up your sides.
All that is left to do is bend 2 small pieces & weld them in place.

I have formed a piece like this from one piece, but not with a Shrinker/Stretcher. So it can be done.
There has to be a lot of Shrink & then a lot of Stretch.
The Shrinker/Stretcher can't handle that amount (especially the Strecher, as it will tare the metal. Just the design of the jaws won't allow it)
