Hello all, I have a question on placing a 4 ft. led over my workbench. My workbench is 2 ft. wide from the wall and wondering how far out from the wall to place the fixture? Should I go 1 ft. out so it is in the middle above the workbench or should I bring it out farther? My walls that the bench is attached to is painted flat white so should reflect well. Thanks all.

I'd put it over the middle of the workbench so you won't be casting a shadow on the bench while you are working.

12" to 18" as long as it's not behind you or obstructed by shelving/cabinets. If your bench is long enough for 2 fixtures (lengthwise) this is even better. Suggest mounting between 7' and 8' high.

I have an 18" soffit over my work bench so I can store stuff off the ground with my 14' ceiling. I mounted light track on the front face on the soffit so I can put led track heads over the bench. I have built in cabinets and a chop saw and miter saw built into the bench (30' long). With this method I can see inside the cabinets and aim light on both sides of the saws so I can see my cut marks better. Unless you plan to lean over your bench a lot, blocking the light, the farther out the better. You want the light source over and in front of what you are lighting up. It doesn't help much to backlight your work. I also will be installing track on the ceiling so I can angle the lights. I will be able to move them around to accent whatever I am working on at the time.
