Question on light wiring

Originally I was going to wire three rows of led ceiling lights using three rocker switches.
Lately I was thinking instead of installing a single pole rocker in each gang that I could install a double rocker switch in each gang to give me more control over my lighting.

I will wire the first three led lamp fixtures with the hot, neutral, and ground wires to the first switch. Would it be proper if I just extended the ground, and neutral wires into the next three fixtures, but bring a second hot from switch two to control the next 3 lamp fixtures in the row?

How would you do that?

With an individual conductor?

Unless I misunderstand you, not only is it not Code compliant, but just plain weird.

The way it's normally done is use a 3 w+gnd romex from the switch to the lights, and feed each fixture from your choice of switch leg.

If using romex, you could continue the string with 2 wire at the "out end" of the last one on the first switch.

If you're using conduit, similar thing. Marc

If you are running individual conductors in conduit, and both switches are powered from the same circuit, it is OK.

Its not so black and white like that.

IF hes using NM-b then yes its NOT code compliant to use a separate individual conductor.

On the other hand, if hes using individual conductors in pipe, he most certainly code use a separately switched individual conductor for the other fixtures.

My illustration was misleading, but not intended. I drew it that way hoping to demonstrate that the single hot conductor was electrically separate from the first three fixtures.

All the wiring will be individual THHN conductors inside the fixture(s), and connected to the next fixture by a small stub of conduit.

With a follow up question will it also be ok to feed the multi gang switch box with a single hot lead from my service panel, and "pigtail" that single wire to feed the three dual light switches. All the lighting will be LED, and I'm well within the current limitations of a single circuit breaker.

Thanks for all the responses to questions that might seem so basic, but when your doing things all alone it sure is great to have a place to go to ask anything so I can do it right the first time.

Once again I appreciate you all !
