Hello, I am looking to drywall the ceiling in my garage. I was looking and when they installed the garage door, they put the chain rail in between the trusses. I was wondering if I could lower the rail below the tension spring? Thank you, its a Liftmaster unit.

Open your door a couple feet, until the top panel is just about to lay flat in the horizontal position. This should be the highest point of the door's travel. Is there a big gap between the door and the chain rail? If so, then you can lower the machine that much. Below the springs will certainly interfere with the door.

Just a bit curious how you managed to do this. Have you any pictures that you'll be okay to share with us about how you managed to go about getting everything done. I'm thinking of moving chain rail on my door as well and could use a bit of help! Thanks!

Depending on the radius of the horizontal track used, you may be able to use a track with a smaller radius. Measure from the joint between the vertical and horizontal track to the top of the horizontal track.

A smaller radius track will lower the door when open. This will also depend on the height of you door and whether they used 4 or 5 sections.

Your door should NOT have been installed that way without checking with you first! How old is your door?
