Wards socket OEMs and timeframes

Here's a challenge for the GJ community: identify the OEM and timeframe for these Montgomery Ward sockets

lol I was asking this for you hahaha I didn't want to say a price that was too high or too low lol

Of course, that's one of the things GJ is great for: crowdsourcing pricing info!

I thought it would be fun to crowdsource a little history as well, given the expertise of many members in various tool manufacturers.

I think the "newer PowrKraft" is OEMed by Thorsen, based on similarities of the chrome finish and the size/brand imprint.

Yeah well I didn't want to ask some ridiculous price for all of them. I'm not sure if you still would like them but I've pmed you and you posted on here but no interest expressed since the initial pm. So if you'd like them let me know, if not I'm going to open them up as free game, but you asked first so I was going to give you first dibs because I don't like selling things out from under people.

I took some picture while doing my favorite thing, sorting sockets , forgot to take a pic of a Bonney, I'm pretty sure the the knurled ones are Bonney. Here are some wild guesses and a few pics. I think it's really hard to tell, even the same manufacturers changed design/style from year to year (look at the Wrights).

Powr-Kraft 100 = Duro-Chrome/Indestro?

WardMast'r = Stanley?

Wards Master Quality top one = Bonney?

Wards Master Quality bottom one = SK or SW?

SpeedMaster Made In USA = Stanley?

MW logo PowrKraft (bottom ones) = Stanley? I think I've seen Wright in that style, not sure, Anyone know?

MW logo PowrKraft (Upper) = Wright?

MW logo SpeedMaster = Wright?

Re: Wards socket OEMs and timeframes

My thoughts are in RED - I'm not gonna attempt a time frame without many catalogs. It seems to me that Wards jumped back 'n forth several times and/or sourced from multiple sources at the same or overlapping times. The earliest ratchets I've got (I believe) are Duro/Indestro (pressed head), followed by Wright (Speedmaster slide button), then a jump to Proto/Penens (Penens style pear head) - or maybe reverse the order with the early Wright - back to either Wright (round head) or Duro/Indestro (round head) - or vice-versa those two as well - and ending (US production at least) with Thorsen (round head).

I wonder if New Britain made some tools for them because of this ratchet:

I had two like this, same model number and Pat. Number. I have not seen any sockets that would fit the New Britain style sockets.

Another pic with the Bonney sockets. The knurling on the one looks a lot like the distinct knurling on Bonney sockets but I do have some Duro-Chrome that have similar knurling but it still looks more like Bonney to me, anyone know for sure?

My grandfathers' Wardmast'r socket set - it's fairly complete, one or two sockets have been replaced over the years, as well as the ratchet. I suspect the handles are a better clue as to who the original maker was - maybe those that are more experts on the topic can say if they recognize the maker of the ratchet that's in the picture inside the box, it doesn't look familiar to me. The speeder handle looks a lot like Wright or Proto designs to me.

I'm stunned - none of our experts recognize the ratchet or speeder designs??? (somehow I suspect they just haven't been reading this thread - c'mon guys, inquiring minds want to know!)
