Snap-On 1/4" drive 5/16 deep socket STM-10

This piece was included in a set of used tools that I received recently.
This particular socket had what seemed to be a threaded insert that is now stripped out. I was just curious if someone could answer for me on why it had a threaded insert and what it was for. Was this even originally a threaded insert? Maybe just from regular use of studs grinding the inside over time? I included 4 pictures of my socket in question below.

Tool guru's please excuse my newb question. Thank you for the help in advance!:bowdown: lol.

Yours is a little older but I have the same socket/same part # and mine does not have a threaded inside. The snap on website lists this part # as a regular socket as well. Looking at the picture it doesn't look like threads have been cut, I wonder is that isn't just a very poor brouching job from the factory. Maybe a few slipped through QC. I couldn't say for certain though.

I think the PO ran a nut down a threaded stud or rod... and ended up "tapping" some threads into it.

common use for deep sockets...
& I can see someone doing this ...
especially with a power drill/
driver etc
