Just thinking aloud.....

Assuming same weight, same diameter/width, same offset......

Would you change to one set of wheels X on the left (can be staggered) and one set of Y wheels on the right (can be staggered too)? and how to find the best tires for car?

That way, you car will have two looks !!!

Symmetry is overrated. Besides, no one can see both sides of the car at the same time.

This brings to mind an old joke about painting a car different colors on the right and left to make bank robbery getaways easier. The witnesses would always give conflicting descriptions.

When I redid our old 49 Chevy truck years ago I couldn't decide whether to paint the steel wheels red or orange, the truck is brown primer. I painted one side orange and the other side red. I asked folks I encountered which color they liked best, and after a couple weeks I repainted the red side orange, the vote winner:)

A friend who was a wheel salesman did this 20 years ago, he kept getting sets of rims stolen off his vehicle at the time. Once he went to 2 different rims, (each side was matching) no more theft, and could show 2 styles on the same vehicle.

i hate how my VW GTI has directional wheels that face different directions on opposite sides of the car...this idea would drive me nuts

Don't ask.
I used to run different hub caps. I had several styles but didn't have 4 matching. A few people noticed that I'd change them. Very few ever noticed that I never had the same style on both sides of the car.

I've only gone as far as having different center caps side to side. It was all I had at the time.

I use factory steel wheels and avoid such issues.

I do that with hub caps. Sometimes I have similar looking hubcaps but none are the same. Nobody ever commented on mismatched wheels.
