Hey all,
This is not really car related, but as I noticed there is such a ton of knowledge here on metalwork when restoring an old vise, I thought I would ask this here as well.
So, I have a 'tap' in my bathroom, which needs some love.
We're talking nickel finished tap here. It is the one pictured below, only mine has nickel finish and not what appears to be chrome in this picture:
Now, I have a second tap, the same one but it is newer. The new one is easy to maintain, and feels more 'smooth' then the older one. Perhaps due to the many years of use and cleaning of course.
I can shine it up real nice with some very very very mild polish paste. But, I think there should be a better way to 'keep' it polished. The new one, for example, you can leave a water drop on top of it for a week, and just wipe it clean a month later even. The old one, it seems to attract water marks like crazy. WHich made me wonder if you can sort of 'wax' a tap? No clue which wax obviously, or what you would call that.
I thought of a wax like finish, because I really have the impression the 'new' one has an added finishing layer, which the old one is nowadays obviously lacking, which is directly reflected in the maintenance effort to keep it clean.
Ok, very sorry to post such a topic here, but you can extrapolate that to any metal that you want to keep clean
Can anyone offer some (product) advise here? I was thinking "wax" of some sort, but no clue if that is correct. Also, ofcourse, it should be able to deal with water... as it sits on a tap..
Thank you!
