Questions about compressor noise

We brought the "new model" kobalt 60 gallon CL compressor. Fine for my use, but a little louder than I had hoped. Would taking it off the pallet and putting it on rubber feet help? I read about intakes but they look the same as whats on it so not sure if that would help

It probably wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it will make a huge difference. Put a rubber mat or something underneath the pallet first to see if quiets it down before going through all that.

An intake muffler would help some. Putting a baffle in front of it helps a lot. Mine is right in my welding area and I simply tossed a fiber glass blanket over rebar mesh when I moved in. The power was right there.
I had moved some stuff around, intended on something a pinch better than it is now with a simple piece of cardboard double layers hanging over the thing.
The breaker is off to big blue, I rarely use it.

Extending the intake close to your ceiling makes a difference as well. The way I understand the rubber is that it doesn't transfer the vibration/sound into the concrete.

Wood is a great dampner so leave it on the pallet unless it is interfering with something.

Put a rubber mat under the pallet. Cheap and easy.

You need to dampen sound from the intake as was mentioned

I had a noisy one (Kobalt?) I stuck a three feet piece of garden hose that fit perfectly into the air inlet. it took away most of the noise, I was amazed. so I guess mine was mostly intake noise.

Any baffle helps, thanks to modern vending the price is right for something like that, couldn't fabricate a piece of foam in a coffee can for that. An increasing adapter s a guy could upsize a hose 1 to go out the wall would be the best, inch rubber or plastic hose and a filter on the end to keep bugs out.
Take a piece of plywood, fur strip and put a piece of foam board on it, lean it up between you and it and put a barrier. It doesn't always have to be a 100% but a barrier makes a HUGE difference cheaply. I like a little familiar sound, mine is on all the time. I have had 3 problems in 40 yrs. The capacitor issue tripped the breaker and a rod knock I heard as well s the bearings in the motor heading south.

What is an "increasing adapter s"? I have a Kobalt compressor too and am looking to run the intake outside. Does that make a huge difference?

What did I say,,, ha I meant a 1/2 to 3/4 hose barb as an example to allow an upsized hose on the suction side. Hook it in to an insulated pipe like a dryer vent. I was going to simply put a coffee can over mine and see if it knocked a little off. Pull it thru a mall car muffler.
I had wondered if there wasn't a case for simple super charging on these but must not or some one would have thought of it.
I just looked at mine and said,, screw it,,, ha

I would be concerned about a car muffler on the compressor side of the air filter. What if some fiberglass or whatever else might be in a muffler got sucked through your compressor?
Filter silencers are cheap to buy. That and extend it up higher and you shouldn't need a car muffler.

Vibration dampeners may help. My local shop sells cork and rubber ones for $7/ea. Neoprene ones are about 4X the cost. Some of the newer compressors aren't threaded for any external filter attachments so you'd have to get creative. The other half of the problem is that's its just a cheap fast running compressor. Probably 1000RPM or more. Change the oil with some frequency. The Husky versions are routinely for sale with blown pumps. They are all Campbell Hausfeld Made in China. The old ones were better. Better compressors cost more money.
