In between me and my fiend we have close to 20 Dodge rams. It is a pain to have that many keys. I know that locksmiths can take apart the locks and re key them. I would like to purchase the tools and stuff to re-key my locks. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

That would be the best solution. But you still might not be able to key them all alike with out reprogramming the computers.

If a key is lost, fired employ, employ makes there own key, you will have to re key the hole fleet instead of one auto. Something to think about. If you sell an auto you will have to rekey in order to protect your system

First step you must now if any have a transponder in the key. Then pick one key and will it fight in all the auto's but won't turn?

It not a good idea convenience will be short lived then the head aches will follow.

thanks for the reply guys. I guess I should have mentioned that I have older trucks. most of my dodges range from 2000 and older. They do not have transponders, just standard old keys. I have way to many keys right now

I am sure it could be done, with the right pinning kit. I have very little automotive experience, besides duplicating keys. Shoot me a PM, I can try to point you in the right direction.

Well there are many kits but I think this is the kit you need. You have all double sided keys? I personally would skip the kit ($300) and buy just the wafers you need. The dealer or a locksmith would be the easiest way in order to get the right ones. Since they are all going to be the same and the kits don't give you vary many wafers buy the ones you need.

When you get the ignition out of the first one pull the wafers out (needle nose pliers) keeping them in order there should be numbers on them right them down from bow to tip that will be your key code.

At this time you should have a key code cut to those numbers then have a few extra keys made. Go to a Locksmith for any keys cut. Use the code cut key for all the keying and duplicate keys then file it away and just use the duplicate keys for every day use. Get extra or just replace all springs when you order the wafers.

You could most likely do this without buying a service kit at all.
Bigger question is do you plan to change the door locks as well? Otherwise you could easily lock yourself out and not have a door key.

The ignition cylinders themselves are held in by active retainer, meaning you would turn the ignition to acc (with key) and and push in retainer to pull it out. Once it's out it's just a few steps to disassemble (pm me for details.)
The cylinder has 8 wafers inside, I would remove the wafers and take account of what you have and try to re-use wafers. (All wafers are stamped with their number which is 1,2,3,4,or 5.). It isn't that big of a deal if you only put some wafers back in, this would make it easier to key alike and the little bit of security you loose is not going to make a big deal at all.)
This is definitely a doable thing, let me know if you need more help.

Thanks guys that is the info I need. I have taken all that stuff apart, except removing the wafers. I will do the door locks as well. Some of the trucks I have are parts only trucks, so I will pull those apart change them up and reinstall them into the running trucks, then change over the remaining locks and shelve them. It will be great going up to any one of my trucks with one key. I will probably set up all the trucks for my buddy that way as well as one I am putting to gether for my father.
