Questions for mechanics

Hello, I have two questions for mechanics. 1)Do mechanics name their toolboxes, similar to how people name their cars? And 2) do mechanics "sticker-bomb" their toolboxes, or in other words do they decorate them with stickers? Thanks!

Personally I've never named my toolbox and I don't care for sticker bombing. Some guys like the stickers, to each their own.

I don’t know any mechanic who has admitted to naming his toolbox. That doesn’t mean they’re not attached to them though!

Some do put stickers on their box, some don’t. Personally, if anybody tries to stick anything on my mint condition Snap On Road Chest, I’ll ‘stick one’ on them!

I don't name mine and I don't do stickers. As others have said it's a matter of taste and choice

I haven't named mine but I do the sticker thing. Only difference is that all of my stickers are stuck on with that flexible magnetic material so I can remove them or move them around at will. I would never actually apply a sticker directly on the box.

I don't name my boxes. I don't use stickers...on anything. I hate trying to get them off. but recently a friend of mine showed me stickers that he puts on strip magnets so he can attach and remove at will without damaging the surface

I don't think tool storage gets used in a way that it would get named.

As far as stickers I put them on my cabinets

Never, ever heard of anyone naming their toolboxes.

My Snap On box has a single NHRA decal on the front center drawer. Been on there since about '87. I would take it off, but I suspect the paint has faded and I would end up with a darker oval of paint.

I think the fad of covering your box with racing "stickers" is about over. Or at least we can hope! When I was growing up, if you didn't have your box wall papered with CraneHolleyHookerEdelbrock stickers, you weren't serious about cars! Now it has almost gone 180 degrees and it brands you as a poser!

At least it seems to me.

A co-worker covered his in stickers and named it the Money pit, had a vinyl decal made for the hutch door was a couple hundred dollars alone. Then when he got divorced and he had to sell it, he only got about half of what it was worth. No one wants someone else's stickers on there new box.

I had two both magnetic. My company number and one I made, Bitter Ender. I worked for the company up to the bitter end. I retired afterwards.

When I got my Snap On box in the late 60's it was already named - "Keep Out" - painted in large letters across the top. I left them there......

My boxes all have names when I'm telling someone to get me something. First box on the right is called ''First Box On The Right'' First box on the left is called ''First Box On The Left'' You can probably guess the names of the rest..lol

The Drawers are similarly named, you know like ''Second Drawer From The Top'' I know, not very imaginative..lol

I don't name or apply bumper stickers to a tool box; but refer to them by their assigned task; whether shop boxes, road chest, portables, or specialty tool boxes.

Not a mechanic, but I have named my old BMW (though none of my other current cars - I did name my old BMW station wagon "Uber Wagon" back when the "Swagger Wagon" commercial was on TV). In other words, I'm the kind of person who would name things.

It wouldn't occur to me to name a tool chest or cart. I suppose if it were a color it could pick up a name ("Big Red", the Pumpkin, or something like that), but I kinda doubt it.

I'm not a giant fan of stickers either - not sure why. My box and cart are both fairly new, but I don't think many stickers will make their way on either. Maybe a few on the cart...

1. Box is not named. Moving as a military mechanic between different shop on a base plus moving bases every couple years you didn't usually keep a specific box very long. My personal box isn't named either but does have my original nickname from my first assignment on a piece of red reflective magnetic material stuck to the front. Got it stolen once by a fellow mechanic. He gave it back after he saw what I did to his box.

2. Gave away nearly every sticker I ever got for years. Was just never in to them. Now, slowly, as a I run across any, I trim some sheet metal, adhere magnetic tape, and they become fridge magnets instead of going on the box.

I've never met someone who named a box.

I have a few sticker on one of my lockers from suppliers I used for my personal cars. FM, 949 racing, exedy, etc. I think sticker bombing looks unprofessional.

No names, one of my carts has the rockauto magnets on the inside of the lid. Yes, they are arranged numerically. The last one involved some major sliding things around. There are about 40 underneath. Duplicates get thrown around the shop in random places.

Never even heard of naming a tool box... I work out of it, not drive it... or... it's a tool box, not a vehicle.

Stickers - yes, but only if I have bought, used (or worked on) whatever the sticker is for. Since my box is a repaint, and it's my working box, not something I plan on selling, then why not? If someone gets it when I croak, then it's their problem, not mine!

No names for my toolboxes. I do have a Mooneyes sticker on it. One place I worked had cameras everywhere, the sticker reminded me someone was always watching. The boss would ask questions like “ why did you lean the tires against that wall instead of over there.” It was weird knowing you were being watched all day.

Never herd of naming a tool box. After the box gets old and surface rust and scratches appear then stickers make there way onto it. I got some old cabinets that were salvaged that have stickers on them

No names and I am one of those that doesn't like all those brand stickers also. Like the clean look. To me stickers just don't look good but that's just a personal thing. To each his own. Guy near me has them all over his box.

Don't have a name for any of my tool boxes but I do have names on every drawer for the benefit of anyone working with me in my garage unfamiliar with the layout. It even helps me on occasion.
Before I retired, I would have never considered doing that but we did have our own names on our boxes and some liked stickers or decals.

Well I'm glad to hear I'm not completely weird for not liking stickers. I'd consider putting a few magnets on, but something about stickers just isn't for me.

I wouldn't say my boxes are named beyond the main box, work box and bench box. As for stickers. Most of my boxes I go for a tasteful minimum. My boxes collect a few, but not just any sticker goes on them. The only exception is my road box. I repainted it and I'm not a painter. It is a 10' job and that box is my sticker ***** to cover all the ****** paint job spots.
