Questions re: installing wall mount exhaust fan

I just picked up a vintage NOS Nutone wall mount exhaust fan. I am super stoked but have a couple questions about installation of this chrome beast and pickins are slim when it comes to information about theses fans that is readily available.

For example, is it essential for the fan to be mounted to an outside wall? Can I mount it flush to an interior wall and run duct work between the rafters?

I'd much prefer to mount this on an interior wall and poking through into the bathroom on the other side of the wall really isn't an option.

I remember as a kid that the old fan we had on the kitchen wall was mounted to an interior wall so I'm guessing it can be done. I was just wondering if someone else has done this or taken an installed fan apart to see how it was done back in the day.

It's been a while since I've done one,but IIRC,the outlet on the fan housing is 3" X 10". There is an available adapter to go to 4" flex,or you should be able to find 3 x10 duct and fittings if that will better fit in the wall / ceiling. The amount of airflow will be decreased with longer ducting and more turns-make sure that the fan can push enough air to be effective. Some of these fans can be set up as non vented units that use charcoal filters also,but IMHO,unvented fans aren't worth the effort...

Thanks for the reply - I have been able to find a couple pics of what the fan looks like.
I'm wondering if I can modify the shroud to adapt a 3x10 duct onto it as it appears to vent directly out the back with a 9" round exhaust.
I'm not sure if this is safe or if I am being too cautious and should just go to town with some tin snips and the rivet gun or spot welder.

Why not mount it in the ceiling? They weren't a good idea back then, why use it now?

remember that any ductwork will affect its flowrate - if you go smaller, or have a long run, or if there are elbows, all those things add up.

I've got a very similar fan for my vent in the kitchen. It's mounted to the wall.
