I have a 110 motor that spins clockwise. I really need it to spin counter-clockwise. I'm not sure it possible, I know some motors are reversible, but I really don't have much to go on with this one. The inspection plate that normally carries any information has been replaced with a piece of galvanized steel. I took a picture of the poles below the panel. the cord that came on it was just two wires, they were connected to the red and black wires on the same side of the motor.

Any help with this would be great, I would really like to get my bandsaw going!!

Thanks,
Brad

There are no markings on the exterior of the motor. Hence my problem. I've been looking on google for a similar motor to steal the schematics from. The inspection plate that normally says who made it, voltage, RPM, etc is missing. like that when I got it.

Is it split phase capacitor start?

Sometimes you just need to take it apart and create a schematic. Once you do that just swap the starting circuit connections if they're accessible.

If you are anywhere near a large town with a motor rebuilder in it... google or Yellow Pages will find one, the thing to do would be to take the motor to the rebuilding shop and get an old timer to look at it. A really experienced rebuilder has seen them all and will probably be able to show you how to reverse it on the spot... AND with any luck might be able to find a cover plate for it in the scrap pile.

I'm going to try to get the pulley the rest of the way off tonight (***** to have most of my tools in another town, I hate moving). Hopefully when I get it the rest of the way apart I can get a schematic made for it!

Bigbandguy- I really like the idea of talking to a local re-builder, I'll have to check around and see if there are any Mom & Pop shops around.

Thanks Again for the advice!

Does the motor have a capacitor? If so, you should be able to determine what you have with a simple multi meter and not take anything apart. It likely has 2 coils (regardless of number of 'poles'), run and start like this;

It may also have a start cap + centrifugal switch. Measure resistance and figure out which terminal # correspond to each coil. The run should be a lower resistance, maybe 0.4 instead of 0.6 ohms. Then reverse the start coil polarity from how it is wired now.
I'll skip the phase angle jargon and equations with no numbers. good luck

It seems odd to me that the electrical access panel is on the same end as the shaft. Possible that this motor could be reversed by simply removing the shaft and reinstalling it 180 out from it's current orientation?
