Hi gents.

Looking at a used IR T30 2 stage 5hp 80 gallon unit. Compressor is a model 2475N5 How long should it take to air up from 0 to cut out (160 on the gauge)? It seemed a little slow to me, but it could be because I was standing there watching it.

It runs decently quiet. After it cut out, I drained air until it kicked back on.

A couple little issues - no belt guard, had about a gallon of water in it, appears to have had the motor replaced. Is it normal to not have a manual switch on a compressor this size (using the circuit breaker to turn on/off)?

Air receiver data plate says 1998.

I did UT the bottom, I'm not concerned about the air receiver.

Anything else to check?

What is a fair used price?

I appreciate the advice.

About 6.75 minutes based on 18 cfm and 0 to 160 psi on an 80 gal tank.

Price is whatever the going rate is in your area and what you are willing to pay.

If the paint is discoloured on the heads it could be a sign of overheating. If the safety valve on the interstage or cylinder head has been removed it could be a sign that there has been valve problems.

Okay. It probably was about 7 minutes. I should have timed it.

No discolored paint, and runs reasonably cool; the cylinders weren't terrible hot, though the outlet was toasty warm. Relief valves are all in place.

If you're talking about the one for $900 it looks like an ok but not great deal. If the electric motor doesn't have a thermal overload on it then you should have a magnetic starter on it which will cost you another $150-200.

To be a good deal worth the risk I'd want that to be more 5-600 tops assuming everything was in good shape and factoring in possibly getting a magnetic starter and a rebuild kit for the pump. If rebuilding the pump isn't something you'd consider I would pass likely

Yes, that's the one. I think I'll hold out. I don't need a big compressor right now, I just want something bigger and quieter than the oilless unit I currently have.

The lack of a manual switch seems normal to me. Dad had two different 80 gallon compressors and neither had a switch built into the pressure switch. The Champion had a mag starter and may have had a switch in it. The current Husky runs the motor right of the pressure switch and again, no manual switch. He used the breaker in the past (a habit that rubs me the wrong way but the breaker was just a few feet from the compressor and edit door). We put a motor rated switch in line with the new compressor. He still just leaves the thing on most of the time.

Yeah keep looking they come up fairly often in the $600 range.

Feel free to pm me if come across a decent unit for sale between here and calgary. I can run up to a 7.5 horse single phase.

I'm no expert on compressors, but the water comment puts me off

I wasn't thrilled to see that much water in it but the wall thickness wasn't substantially reduced.

I am set up similar to this - the layout of the shop puts the air compressor pretty much right beside the breaker panel.

Thanks for the input thus far gents.
