Quick Compressor Question

I recently ordered a new compressor. After doing a bit of research I landed on a Makita MAC2400. The compressor was delivered today. I've never owned one before, but need one for a few projects on the fixer upper we just bought.

The compressor arrived leaking oil. There's a bit of damage on the packaging corner near the oil stains. Should I still try to set it up or is this something I should contact the vendor for?

The oil is definitely coming from the compressor and not the bottle of compressor oil that comes with it.

usually compressors are shipped dry of oil. is there visible damage to the compressor itself? could the oil be from the bottle ?

The bottle of oil is perfectly dry

I'm wondering if the compressor got turned upside down or on it's side & leaked?
do you see any visible damage to the compressor?

bought one of these several years ago. It also came with some package damage and oil leakage, doubtless from the machine being upside down at some point.

filled the oil to the correct level, fired it up, and it's been well used since with no issue. too bad Makita doesn't make a bigger comp...i'd be all over it.

Went ahead and got the compressor set up. No real damage to speak off.. It looks real solid actually, hopefully get good use out of it

The reason why oil-using compressors should not be moved on their sides (and certainly not upside down) is because the oil will leak into the compression chambers. Well I don't have the exact numbers but oil compresses a whole lot less than air... a piston trying to compress a good amount of oil can break something.

It is no biggie as long as you leave the compressor alone for a few days right side up. By then whatever oil got there will get out.
