Quick-connects and couplers for hoses and airtools

What's your preference?

At work all of my stuff is plain M / Industrial quarter-inch fittings, because they're the industry standard in virtually every dealership and the like in the country.

At home I've recently switched over to the "V" style which are still 1/4" threaded fittings, they just don't neck down nearly as far. On a smaller 60gal home compressor I can absolutely feel the difference with an air hog like a 1/2" impact or a sander.

I caught mention of the availability of this type of fitting on this site, and was surprised to see they're quality items - they're Milton brand. Personally at work I'm a fan of Milton and Parker QD couplers simply because they hold up really, really well.

Anyone here running something other than the industry standard?

added benefit: "I'd be happy to loan you my 2135Ti but it won't fit your hoses due to my special unobtanium fittings, and swapping back and forth just invites air leaks. Sorry, but you'll have to go buy an Earthquake like the rest of the home gear heads!"

I run 3/8 "H" style fitting and couplers. If I was starting from scratch I think I'd probably go with 1/4 "V" High flow fittings since they actually flow more than 3/8 H does and they're smaller and easier to connect under pressure.

94EG8... I didn't know that. The only thing that's kept me from switching to larger 3/8" fittings prior to discovering 1/4" V style was the fact that many of my tools are threaded 1/4" NPT anyway... so what's the point of having a fat 3/8" coupler hanging off of it?

(I've always stayed 3/8" or greater everywhere else, though. Only my final air hose has 1/4" ends)

Based on a search here, I switched all my air QDs to Milton V type. I got them all at Northern Tools.

This is a good place for tools and garage advice.

I've gotta look into these v style ends. Running a 1/4" 100' air line at home just for light duty stuff, and need to put a new end on it.

I switched all my couplers to Milton V style a few years ago. One advantage of the V style is that the couplers accept M and A plugs too - so I can run V plugs on tools where I notice the increased flow, but I can still use my old M plugs on things like tire inflators and blow guns. It doesn't work the other way around, so I have an adapter hose with a V coupler and an M plug for using my air tools in someone else's shop.
