Quick Electrical question

Just got a hot tub delivered yesterday
Started filling it and plugged it in....
GFCI on the cord will not reset.
Clicks on and goes right off after you hit the button...
My guess is that there is something going on with the tub....
Am I right?

Check the outlet polarity.

try a different outlet.

Had that happen with a pressure washer... Had to plug it in... wait a minute then reset while plugged in. Turned out there was water someplace where it shouldn't have been.

Hot tub guy told me that If I plug the Hot Tub (which has a GCFI on it's cord) into a GCFI protected outlet it would cause the problem.....
I'm not very smart but that doesn't make sense

It doesn't. We all out here have hair dryers and other appliances that have GFCI's on the cords and we use them while plugging them in to our bathroom gfci outlets.


With NO one in your hot tub....plug your tub cord in to a NON gfci working outlet. If the cord gfci will still not reset...then you either have a bad cord gfci or a current leakage in your tub that is tripping the cord gfci . The fault of either...should be fixed before anyone uses the hot tub. good luck. JMO

bring a cord from a non gfi outlet and test it there. if you still pop the gfi then you have problems in the cord, cord gfi or hot tub.

That was my plan....
Electrician told me a ballpark price of a hot tub hook-up is $700
But then again a wife that's been jonesing for a hot tub could make that seem worth it

Ive never seen a hot tub connected with an extension cord before,is this just a temp deal till you get it all hardwired with a disconnect?

Inside or outside hot tub?

How big?

120volts? 15amp or 20 amp circuit?

If 120volts, even at 20 amps its going to take forever to heat the water to hot tub temp (95 to 100 degrees) and if outside it will be difficult to keep that temp when your outside air temps go down.
