Are 16mm or 18mm wrenches used commonly or at all on brake lines or fittings, or anything requiring a flare nut wrench?

Im looking at a set of old snap on underlines, 9 -19 5 pc. the 16mm/18mm would make it the 6pc they have now. I just checked my little mr2's brake lines are 10mm and my bleeders are 8mm. but for bleeders theres also bleeder wrenches and offset wrenches I suppose

I use 16mm often on power steering pressure hose to pump fittings and 18mm on power steering pressure hose to steering gear fittings. I would not want to be without those two sizes if you work on ford/GM/Chrysler.

GM fuel filters have a 21mm fitting with a 16mm nut on the line. A lot of brake line fittings are 10, 11, or 12mm

Actually, it's a 20 mm fitting on most GM fuel filters but, with GM fuel filters disappearing with the 2004 model year, they're going the way of the dodo bird.

11mm is used on most VW/Audi brake line fittings.Chrysler does used 20mm on one of their powersteering line fittings in the newer ram trucks with rack and pinion steering.

Older Honduhs use a 8mm for the rear wheel cylinders.

Don't think Snap-On makes a flare wrench in 8mm. Only ones I could find from reasonably good companies was Proto and Hazet.

8mm is the same as 5/16. 11mm same as 7/16. Gm fuel filters use 20mm on filter end and line end i use a 5/8.

If you work on an assortment of cars it's safe to assume you'll need the 16-18. Don't get caught up on style of wrench. As long as it's a snap on wrench it's a damn good wrench. I like the new style personally because of the large numbers.

If you go filling your box with vintage wrenches it could probably get pretty expensive. Plus there have been advancements since days of old that make some of the new style wrenches better. I love my FD+ wrenches. I bought an old style SAE set of flair wrenches and I dislike the 1/4-5/16 wrench it's so tiny compared to the new style and is a pain to use. Anyway this is just fold for thought nothing more.

Ya thats prolly true. Hmm interesting you like the newer ones over these.
Ya Im gonna get a set of either FD or FD+, so its safe to say you'd recommend the FD+?

Thanks

And some people are saying 20mm, but Snap On doesnt even make that size. for a 20 you use another brand?

I looked closer and the set I'm watching looks like it has owner marks. Think that does it for me, no thank you. 23 bucks more and I can get a new set with student discount, with the 16/18 I guess I'll just do that.
