Hello, I am in the process of finishing off my one car garage and wondering what I could use to temporally heat it. I thought about getting a heater that mounts to the top of a propane tank but am not sure on how safe (attached garage) and how well it would actually heat the garage.

This would only be use to temporally heat the garage while I finish the garage. Will get a more suitable one down the road.

The heaters like you propose, or any torpedo type "construction heater" would be my suggestion for limited, temporary, but effective heat.

I have the one you're talking about, and it will be fine, just make sure you keep the garage door open a crack so the fumes don't get to you...

Get the double one( about $78 at HD) and you can run one or two of the heaters so you can save on the propane..

Since that type of heater isn't vented to the outdoors, the carbon monoxide it generates will stay inside the garage. You need to be careful, particularly with an attached garage as the CO can get into the house. If you do use one, run it for limited time periods and keep the garage door opened a little to provide fresh air. Make sure there is a working CO detector inside the house as well. Personally, I'd go with an electric space heater instead.

I have a Mr Heater HERO portable / cordless propane heater for use in my garage. Works great for temporary use when I'm in the garage. The garage is 20' x 20'. Heats up in a few minutes.

i got by with a propane torpedo for years in situations similar to yours. when you do go a permanent heater, keep the torpedo for emergencies / off site work. like fixing a family members car at THEIR house...

I don't know how cold it is where you are (or how warm you want it), but I have had good luck in my garage (two car, attached, drywall but probably not insulated, insulated garage door) with this...

Soleil Milk House Heater. $20 at my local Ace Hardware. If you have two 15A circuits in your garage, you could get two and still only be out $40. I let it run an hour or two before I get out there and it makes the garage a lot more tolerable.

Wait another month before buying a heater. I got both of mine (kerosene and propane) on clearance and "saved" 50%.

Electric or propane infrared with O2 sensor, about $200.00 at Northern. Most comfortable and versatile. Kerosene in a tight space can be bad for your health.

An infrared - given sufficient air- will produce no CO but will produce considerable moisture. If you don't mind paying for the electricity (usually more than propane), the short term plan electric infrared.

Picked the hero up this weekend. Nice little unit heats the garage quickly.
