Quick machine turned look on boat hinge backer plates

The old boat engine covers hinges pulled out of the wood after 20 years. I made a couple oversized backer plates to put them back on, and decided to dress them up a little by turning a pattern with a wirebrush on the drill press.

Can’t add more pics to the first, so here’s the finished plate and the final repair.
I use a wooden dowel and lapping compound for engine turning on sheet metal. It creates a uniform depth swirl pattern. Cratex is the default material, but I can't chuck up diameters over 1/2" in the drill press, so I turn one end of the size dowel needed on the lathe to fit my chuck.
