I'm in need of a new toolbox and wondering what opinions everyone would have between the 2 front runners I'm trying to decide upon. I'll give you some background information to also make your opinions. Canadian in manitoba so there's no way I can get access to some US options, Professional Red seal Mechanic that is actually using this box for Work too...

looking at a Snap on KTL1023A vs a Mac tools MB1084

Love this place and use it constantly to judge whether or not to pick up certain tools.

If it was a Macsimizser I would go with the Mac but a Tech series over a KRL, go with the Snap-on.

Whats the price?

I can get service from the Snap on guy locally, I can't remember seeing the Mac guy around town.

The Snappy appears to be the bigger box for $200 more.

Hows the service from either truck brand ? Which do you normally buy from ?

The only way you will keep the masses at GJ happy is to buy 5 HF boxes with that money.

Personally I have 6 SO boxes and nothing compares. Given away my Hf and Husky stuff just did not hold up. My boxes are so overloaded even my SO guy is impressed with what I have stuffed in them. The drawer configuration in the 1032 and 1033 fit things that no other box will hold. Had a vise on my Taco box for 30+ years have supported cars on it.
Have one box with 3in1 on top and over 1k lbs of tooling in it. Have a KRA 2 bank that is my press box which has more metal than many machine shop racks.

I had to look and see what a KTL was.

Its hard to compare a Mac box to a Snap-on. The Tech series is a step down from a KRL/KTL. A Macsimizer in some sizes is a slight step up

Good price on the KTL and Snap-on credit is easy to deal with in Canada.

Lol. Enjoyed your post... Spot on! Went round and round the other day with some here singing the praises of the h.f box... My advice was to the poster was spend some time getting a used snap on box vs a h.f. New. ( you can pick up a nice snap on box or like for very reasonable with a little effort if new is out of reach) the h.f. Supporters were as you say.... Cheers

The HF crowd can get testy if you do not follow the advice.
One of the popular comments is you can not make money with a toolbox.
I am unable to total how much money I have made using my Taco box and vise what I have welded, straighten, pressed and built stuff on. It owes me nothing.

One issue is the real good boxes rarely come up for sale I have not seen any used KRL1033 or 1032. With the 69 inch drawers you would be amazed what measuring instruments you can fit in them.

And there is always somebody who is unhappy TFB

Stop with the ******** brand trolling, already.
Hmmm let's see your opinion counts, but not others? Last time I checked this is a forum for advice/ opinions. If you don't like someone's else's opinion put your big boy pants on **** it up and defend why your brand of choice is better. Talk about a brand troll... Complaining when one prefers one brand over another... Good grief.. Using your logic one should have no brand prefence on anything? Right? We all know a product is always the same and brand never matters does it? What rock did you crawl out from under?

Listen, son: I'm not disputing recommending a brand. I'm calling out a troll who's starting brand-warring ******** where there wasn't any. Nobody was in here brand bashing, until someone felt the need to start it yet again.

If you like Snap-on, awesome, recommend it.

If you like HF, awesome, recommend it.

Just lay off the brand-bashing nonsense.

On-topic: OP, since you've provided two specific examples that you're asking about, and not asking for recommendations about anything else, the Snap-on box you posted would be my choice. Seems to be a bigger, better box.

And to you sonny boy... Almost everything on this board is about brand. News flash... Best bang for ones buck and intended usage and that sir most definitely includes brand or brands. Cheers

"When I buy Harbor Freight tools I be sure to use them ASAP because there is a high likely hood I'll need to take them back to the store. Didn't even think about it when I got these USA built tools. The 1/2 and 3/8 kick major ****, I didn't foresee the trouble with the 1/4".................................................... Just saw this post on another another thread....(I cut and pasted it). Now tell me again why brand should not be part of the conversation??

Figured I'd give an update. The Snap on guy was pretty desperate, ended up checking in on me today (his normal day is Friday) I told him a hardline of 5500 he countered with 5800 and a 3/8 techangle torque wrench.
So I'm now a owner of a storm grey ktl1023.

Congrats. I was going to tell you to go with the dealer who gave you the better deal or try looking for a used box if you were bent on getting a Snap on or Mac one.

Just my $0.02.
I've had many truck branded boxes over the years working professionally. All are still very much "alive" after years of use and abuse.
I really believe a lesser brand of box would have been in the scrap pile by now, all my boxes will outlive me and I'd like to think they'll survive the next generation.

That being said, if I needed tool storage in the garage, ( I dont), I'm sure there would be a HF box there. Professionally I'd pick something else.....
