quick question m18 Milwaukee fuel 3/8 impact..

i just got the m18 3/8" milwaukee fuel impact wrench.. just took it out of the box, never even put a socket on it.. this might be a stupid question, but the one i got, if i pull the trigger in slightly just enough to get it to run at a very low speed - with no socket attached to it - when i hold it pefectly level eveything inside turns smooth, but if i point the nose downward i get a vibration and a knocking sound from the rear of the gun.. im assuming this shouldnt do this, but i just want to make sure before i exchange it..

if you turn your speakers up you can hear it... i hear it when i listen on my ipad.

I have honestly not checked, will do so tomorrow morning and report back. I am not too surprised it makes clunks because it's an impact, you are probably hearing the hammer.

Instead of dicking around with it, it's the hammer by the way, why don't you just take a bolt off with it whick is what it was designed to do. Go over to your car and remove a lug nut which this tool will do effortlessly. You are kidding right?

cause if it was something like it having a bad bearing, it would still remove a lugnut - what's that prove? i have the high torque 1/2" model, the fuel impact driver, and 4 other cordless impact driver (all that have hammers btw) and none of them do that..
and for the record, the last time someone said "your kidding right" - is when i suspected that somone swapped out their old battereis into a brand new m12 kit i bought - and when i figured out how to read the date in the serial number, it turned out both battereis were over 2 years old.. (which doesnt make any sense for a black friday promo item, esp when EVERY other battery i bought was made only a few months before) so excuse me if i wanna double check before i commit to keeping it instead of just exchanging it. sorry if thats an inconvience for you IKE.

I even exchanged my M18 1/2" impact 2655 for a M18 3/8" impact 2654 a few months ago. The 2655 had a low speed warbling sound that was not found with the other Fuel impacts: M18 impact wrench (2763) or impact driver (2653). One of my M12 Fuel impact drivers had a low speed squeal that I may consider exchanging soon..... I had expected better QC from Milwaukee

OK, I've got three of the 3/8" M18 impact wrenches and one of the 1/4" M18 hex impact drivers and I don't notice that noise in any of them. I had to turn the volume way up to hear what it was that you were talking about but no I don't hear that in any of the four so maybe you do have a lemon so take it back. Either way you still have a five year warrantee which is nice.

its just sounds like something is being hit inside the gun when i power it up.. (picture how it sounds/feels if you get a rock stuck in a tire as your driving). if i point the gun up, it stops, if i push the square drive in with my hand while its spinning, its stops too.. what concerns me though, is that if i give it full speed, i can still feel and hear it knocking slightly. its probably something very minor, but i think ill just exchange it for another just to play it safe before it gets banged up. local store has them in stock anyway, so its not a big deal at all.. thanks for the replys.

so just an update - i bought another one from HD today, and it doesnt have the same knock in it.. the square drive on the one that knocks has slightly more play in it if you push/pull on the 3/8 drive. maybe its a just a shim missing, or a slightly weaker spring inside. either way, problem solved. - im happy..

good to know. i ran out to my garage and checked my 1/2 compact fuel to report back to you (no noise in mine) at 12:30 am before i read through the whole thread. lmao at myself. you had a very legitimate concern, glad you got it corrected.

And that's why they have a very good warranty. Use it. By the way, my M18 Fuel 3/8" impact does not have that issue
