Quick Toilet Drain Question

I am moving the main sewer pipe in my house over about 2'. Can the toilet drain straight down into the sewer pipe? The vent would come in through the side.

Currently, the toilet drain comes down about 6", makes a 90 deg turn, goes about 16" and then into a vertical pipe...the up section is the vent...down goes to the sewer pipe.

If I can go straight down into the sewer (useing the correct sweeps....it will make my life a little easier...

Phsically it should work well - I have a rental that is that way, in cast iron from the late '30s and still works well. No idea as to what code requires today.

You might have a problem with the trap siphoning out even with the side vent. I've never seen one done like that so I'd check with a plumber.
