I recently picked one of these up. Any rhyme or reason for them or just someone's take of a better mousetrap? Seems there's a fair bit of mechanical force there, but any advantage over a decent 'regular' c clamp?IMG_20211212_110552776.jpg

It's too bad the "Patent Pending" is not a number. I'll bet the description in the patent explains the concept. Twice the leverage with the second screw? Easy access from two directions? I believe the copper plating is added to keep welding BBs from sticking to them. Or, at least to make them easier to knock off. It will also prevent rust, like the plating on TIG welding rods. Cool clamp!

Made by Grand. Those have been around for some time. I have a couple, but seldom see the need for one.

The second screw gives you a big force advantage.

On another site, there is talk of extra force without twisting, as the regular clamps often twist the pad at full pressure

RTM, thanks for that.. that's what I was getting at. Seems plausible at the very least its to counteract twist. Not sure if it's a an issue that needs such a solution, but interesting.

You can definitively get it very tight, but it seems the fixed face tilts and would dig into anything remotely soft. A swivel at the fixed end as well would solve that.
