Picked up a little $5 taiwan vise from my scrap guy and threw a stand together from scrap for a portable small vise. Probably going to give it to one of my buddies who needs a vise but he better buy me dinner LOL.

Used stuff I had laying around, base is a dualy truck disc brake rotor I got from the same scrap guy for free. The vise mount and bottom piece are 6" channel left over from building my shop mezzanine, I have about 10 or more of those pieces about 8 inches long. The round tube upright is a section of Mustang 4 cylinder driveshaft, sucker was way rusty. My buddy who is learning to weld welded the driveshaft section to the chanel pieces. One design flaw is not properly orienting the vise for long vertical pieces. Oh well this was a quick project before I make a bigger one for my big vise. I beadblasted and painted the vise Ford red and the stand Ford blue because that's what I had laying around.

That is one cool end product for only $5. I'm sure your buddy will apreciate it.

how are you going to secure it to the floor? I would be afraid of it tipping over.

With the dualy brake disc it's pretty heavy. It's not meant for big work, it's only a little 4" taiwan vise. It does not seem tippy.
