quiet compressor recommendations

how can you fudge the numbers? I guess that would be to take the readings when the compressor is shut off or something? I'm guessing that it is just that quiet, if you look around that site there are more higher scfm compressors, for not much more money, 2 stage ones as well. Though I dunno if the 2 stage ones are really worth the extra money, that extra stage would lead me to believe there are more parts in there to brake.

And if the above compressors do not have an exhaust filter, then that would be something more to add to make it that much quieter. Though as stated previously, I'd put it in a enclosure either way.

I bought a muffler my thoughts on it do they work the answer is yes. Do they bring the nosie down from the intake yes i can't hear the noise from the air intake no more. Is the air compressor still loud yes but its not as bad as befor. I hope my input helps somebody out

My Professional Sears

I've had my sears professional compressor for about 10 years. It is the quietest compressor and keeps up with everything that I use, from die grinders, sandblasting cabinet, Sandblasting. It's a 2 stage, 175psi compressor, oiless. I replaced the regulator the other day, just ordered it from Sears and was here in 2 days, got back to work. It's 120volt. It literally amazes me! The newer ones are upright which I like better than my horizontal profile. I've heard good and bad about the teflon that makes then 'oiless', but they are man made and sure to mess up sometime! Just wanted to join in!

just moved my Ingersoll Rand 60 gallon into the garage!!!! supposedly it's not terribly loud, the salesman said he had the 80 gal, and it's not too bad at all..... so we'll see when the electrician gets here on monday to hook it up.... I'll post pics later....

Fudging numbers is easy. How was it measured, at what distance, in an open area or a reflective area, etc. It goes on and on, its all about what standard was it tested to.

A couple of pieces of black pipe screwed right into the compressor head, poked out the side of the garage, with a $10 turbo muffler duct taped to it and attatched to the garage with a $1.19 muffler bracket. Been that way almost 20 years and nearly silent.
Sure, you hear the mechanical noises from the compressor, but 2/3 quieter

Don't take this the wrong way - most garage guys only really look at the cheap piston-type compressors they see in the 'tool' stores - because that's all they ever see for sale.

You want a great quiet compressor, look at what machinists use for their CNC milling machines. NOTHING is going to be quieter than a rotary screw or a rotary vane compressor. I have several just like this one :

and you TRULY can stand next to them and talk. I am EXTREMELY doubtful about the Eaton above being that quiet as I have never seen any kind of piston compressor that is as quiet as a rotary type.

In addition, these compressors generally have a 100,000 MTBF (mean time between failure) and generally do not come with tanks, because they run 24/7/365 with a 100 PERCENT duty cycle. That means if you buy one, they'll not only outlive you, they most likely would outlive your grandchildren. Compare that to the typical 'garage' compressor that might last a couple of years of intermittent use before it is junk.


But, just like anything else in life, if you want something decent - you're probably going to have to pay for it.

I would look on ebay for a compair hydrovane or any other rotary compressor.

I would also spend a lot of time READING about the different compressor types.
