I am tired of my loud vacuum.

Are there any quiet vacuums out there?

Not whole house systems, since that is not an option for me.

For the shop? Try Festool or Fein.

For the home? Dyson and a pair of earmuffs.

I have heard okay things about Numatic's Henry vacs, but they're not as quiet as I think you're looking for.

For the home. Yeah I know about the earmuffs thing. That's what I do now. Might have to stick to this solution. At least it's a cheap solution! :)

Don't have any advice on vacuums.

But you do have to tell me...Is that your Beech Staggerwing??? Has to be one of my favorite planes of all time!!! We have a few old tail draggers here in Texas. A Beech 18, 185, and an L19 Birddog.

No. Not mine. It's in a museum near me. My favorite airplane too. :D

Fein Turbo II is my absolute favorite vacuum now. Sound level is so totally comfortable, the suction noise at the nozzle can overpower the motor noise!

Dyson is the quietest vacuums I've ever owned. You'll be able to talk while vacuuming.

I received one of the cheaper dysons for Christmas and wouldn't really call it quiet. It is leaps better than the air raid siren it replaced though.

As others have mentioned already, Fein and Festool. Bosch also has a high end quiet vacuum. And, as already mentioned, they are expensive shop vacs.

Fein is the quitest shop vacuum that I know of. The tone of the noise is also not bad.

Very powerful too. Built well. Way more expensive than the $99.00 craftsman I bought in 1994, but damn that thing is not only loud but the type of noise is horrible. It is regulated to sucking up water and outdoor debris.

I loved my Shop Vac that had a "quiet feature" as part of its marketing. It worked great until a family member sucked up some small nails with no filter. I should have bought the new motor. I now have a Nilfisk. Three times the money for pretty much the same performance. I hate loud dirt suckers. I thought the Shop Vac would take ANYTHING you threw at it. I think the Nilfisk is a bit more, shall we say, tender.
