Quietest Compressor ???

Hi all,
In the market for a compressor, this will be on a 220 line.
not sure about the phase but I think single is best???
Prefer the quietest one available, and prefer to buy it on line.
My budget is approx. $1200.00 and under.
Looking for a 60-80 gallon tank size.

Any advice is greatly appreciated,

I think the old vintage ones are the quietest. They run much slower. But I don't think you can find one online! I just put back together a 1964 Brunner.

I just Picked up a 2 Year old Campbell Hausfeld 60 gallon 220V 5HP unit and my 1954 Kellogg American 80 gallon 220V 5HP unit is much quietier.
Pumps are much heavier, and thicker...but run super smooth!

I do have to say though, I also still have a Newer 24 gallon 2 HP 110V Ingersol Rand that runs Impressively Quiet. I would check those 220V units out

my eaton is a 5hp with a 7.5 hp pump running at slower speed. Its pretty quiet.

You probably don't have much choice on the phase question. There is only single phase and three phase power. If you have both (houses only have single phase) then you have a choice.

Sorry for being discouraging, but in my findings the quietest compressor (assuming you are buying a newer one), is the one you put outside your shop in a lean-to.



A good part of the noise coming out of a compressor is through the intake, so you can knock down a good bit of the noise by attaching a car muffler to it. Mcmaster-carr sells some glas-paks that are NPT pipe threaded and will fit on IR compressors with a simple pipe elbow and no modification.

they are used for labs and medical/dental applications because they are quiet

I can save you a lot of money. Buy my C/man oiless for $250 and use the savings to buy some good ear-plugs.

Am I correct to understand that a piston type compressor will run somewhat quieter than an oil-less model?
FWIW, I the compressor would be used for operating of my tire machine, lift, and impact tools.
