Quikrete Premium Clear Coat or Rustoleum Premium Clear Coating

Hi Guys,

New to the forum... I recently did my Garage flooring with Quikrete's Epoxy kit. Now i want to add a clear coat to make it look a bit nicer and maybe strengthen the epoxy coat.

I'm having trouble finding Quikretes Premium Clear Epoxy coating kit. I went to my local Lowes and they don't stock it anymore. Lowes.com doesn't have it anymore either.

I was thinking of replacing it with Rustoleum Premium Clear Epoxy coating. Can i mix two different kits? Will the Clear coat adhere to the Epoxy? Or should i just leave it as is?

Are there any other alternatives out there?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Rustoleum epoxy kit on my floor. I did it about 5 years ago and over the summer I decided to re-do it because it was slippery without the paint flakes on it and I thought it would look better.

I simply used a shop vac and blower to clean the floor and then used paper towels to clean up any oily spots.

I had no problems rolling a new coating over the old coating.

You should be able to roller over your existing floor with the new stuff no problem... the clear coat kit works the same as the colored semi-gloss kit... just without the color additive.

All coatings are a bond breaker. You should sand or abrade the surface to a 60 grit or so surface feel to try to obtain the proper bond. Without proper prep you will generally see an adhesion failure between the 2 coats of epoxy.

I agree with space envy. You always need to abrade the surface for the next coat to bond properly.

Ditto. Scuff sand it with a 60-80 grit sand paper or dryway sanding screen and clean away the debris. Otherwise over time/use the clear may de-laminate and peel like a snake shedding its' skin.
