Are you sure it's worn out? The quill springs I've encountered still worked when properly adjusted. I have seen some that were abused and the ends broken off.

Actually, it's not my tool. My neighbor has an old Delta 220 with the quill spring cover and no spring. I thought there might be a cheaper alternative than Ebay.

I do clock repair. If you can get the width and thickness there should be an equal spring from a clock parts supplier. You would have to cut it to length and anneal the end to make the attachment means. If you are interested I can help you with the procurement. Most springs are less than $20.00. There is also Taney Engineering that custom makes springs but they are not cheap.

Having never done this, and not owning a Delta, there seems to be lots of info out there by googling the next line. (Some even point back to GJ) Lots of results just face ebay listings.

This comes up as one option.
It's pretty easy to do, and the spring is reasonable priced. Just put the new spring in place and rotate the cover until the spring has the correct tension to balance the weight of the quill.
