Quincy 216-103

I recently bought a Quincy 216 and am going through it. I see valve rebuild kits online however my valves are enclosed in a cast machined housing. Do these housings come apart to access the plate and spring or is it a buy a new assembly type thing? Thanks in advance

These valves are just press fitted together. You need to separate them at the seam where it transitions from cast to machined surfaces. It is not a very tight fit.

Have a good look at the guide rails that keep the valve disc centered as it moves. They can wear and let the disc seat off center which leaves a little crescent shaped gap which prevents the valve from sealing properly. It is a pain to diagnose since the compressor will run fine for awhile then begin to sputter and pop then run fine again as the disc wanders around.

Get yourself a manual for it. They typically show exploded views of everything.

I took apart some of those once. I clamped the part in a vise and tapped back and forth to loosen the non clamped part. Worked well.

Good idea, my chisel idea didn’t work and I’m trying not to damage or chip the valve housing.

Finally figured it out. Thought I would post pics if it will help anyone in the future. So one valve I inserted a roll pin punch and then tapped punch side to side to wiggle the seat out. The other valve I inserted all the way and pushed the seat out. No damage or distortion to the valve plates or springs.
