Quincy 240 info

Hi all, today I picked up a Quincy 240-9 compressor pump, along with the biggest GE 3HP motor I've ever seen (it's almost as big as the Dayton 7.5hp motor I'm planning on driving the pump with.) The pump s/n is 557300L. Any ideas on how old it is? Also there's a copper tube attached to the head unloaders, any idea where that's supposed to go? The pump turns smoothly by hand and I can hear the valves actuate, is there anything else I should look for before changing the oil and putting power to it? Last question, anyone want to help me lift this thing? It's friggin' heavy :lol_hitti

I'm rebuilding a 240-10 right now, you can get the manuals and rebuild instructions from Quincy's website. And if you contact them they should be able to tell you the age by the serial number.

The copper tube from the unloaders runs to valve on the oil pump, then to the receiver, IIRC.

They will flow up to 25 cfm I believe, but only to about 125 psi max since they're single stage. I had a bunch of notes from when I talked to one of the Quincy guys and I can't find them at the moment.

The "9" in the box is the Record Of Change (ROC) - that tells you the approximate age.

One of the reasons why your motor is so large is that it is TEFC (Totally-enclosed, Fan-cooled).

I think it's built sometime before 1990. It's just a speculation but I've seen the hydraulic unloader valve on 1990s 325 pump was changed to the less-expensive type w/ 1/8-NPT screw-on.

Former hydraulic unloader: located side of crank case
Current hydraulic unloader: located front of crank case (top of oil pump housing)
