Quincy 325 Compressor questions

I have a 325 pump on a 80 gallon tank being driven buy a 3 phase 2HP Baldor motor 1750 rpm. Its pulley is around 4 inches in diameter which turns the pump around 400 rpms. Would this same motor have enough power to turn the pump with a 7.5 inch pulley? This should drive the pump around 850 to 900 rpms. The pump is designed for the 900 rpms if needed according to Quincy. Would a 3 phase 3HP motor be better? I dont really want to go any bigger of a motor than 3HP unless i have to because i want to power this with a VFD and the 3HP models are alot cheaper than a larger model. Thanks...

The above link says that 3 hp should drive the pump at 400 rpm and 5 hp to run 850 rpm. It takes more power to turn the pump faster. If you want to try then monitor the amperage draw of the motor and you will see what happens. Before you do anything measure the amperage draw of the setup you have now. You can run faster at a reduced cutoff pressure if you want but it still all goes back to the current draw of the motor.

Just got back into town but to answer your question, mine is single phase but 5 HP is 5 HP. Single phase, 3 phase, 220, 440 or whatever, it takes the same amount of juice to create that much HP.
