Quincy 325 Control modification

Made modification to control my QR 325. Added one dual time delay relay to lock out the power contactor should the compressor run continuously for more the a specified amount of time, so at the moment ,if it runs continuously for more then 1 1/2 hours it shuts down, and locks out until a manual reset, via a latching relay. Each time the compressor powers on by the tank switch it reset the timer .

Second modification involves an added oil pressure switch. The oil switch is a single pole double throw Nason pressure switch, one contact is in the power circuit to the contactor, the other pole goes to a latching relay circuit. . Should the oil pressure drop below 13 lbs, the compressor will lock out until a manual reset. Issue with this circuit I needed to add a time delay of a few seconds, to maintain a circuit as the power is turned on, and the oil pressure builds to >13lbs, or the latching circuit would kick in immediately. Other issues with the circuitry involved reverse flow of power in the circuits, messing up the logic. Next time I do something like this I will give a programmable logic controller a shot, this required too much wiring and space, even though it requires few brain cells to maintain (my main goal). All circuitry is 12vdc, except for the contactor coil which is 240AC

Third part of the circuit involved a dual time delay relay (dpdt) to activate a 12vdc solenoid valve to drain the tank, was $22 total for the valve and delay relay. Added a screen filter before the solenoid valve, and a 1/2" diameter magnesium anode in the same area.

Nice job with the controls. Looks great and adds some nice functionality. Can you show some photos of the wiring?

What did you use to get 12v needed to drive the controls?

I would assume the SOLA power supply is what converts line voltage to the 12VDC...

Looks nice, albiet kind of overkill for a home compressor. I just flip the off switch on my compressor when not using and close the ball valve at the tank... lol

I tried to hide it, pretty bad in my standards, as this actually started off in a smaller enclosure. As to following/understanding the wiring , seeing would not help, kind of complicated, due to some feed back through some circuits, added blocking diodes.
Not "kind of overkill", definitely overkill, started off as a oil pressure cutoff switch and escalated. Wish I started with a larger box, would have been easier, requiring less room with a programmable control.

Dual timer relay on the very bottom starts a timer which shutdown compressor in 1 1/2 hour.
Next up is the Sola 12vdc power supply; last control I made, I used a Dell laptop supply.
Then the small delay timer which work in conjunction with the oil pressure switch.
Next is the relay which activates the contactor.
Then a dual timer relay which is the circuit for the auto drain.
Top small relay is just a latching relay to lock out the compressor.

Relays are from China, but US suppliers relabel these and sell at stupid prices. There are cheaper single and dual timers on PCB boards but they require more mounting time, take more space, and are going to be fun to replace. Most of these come China post, which is slow, believe they use Mule trains from the Chinese factories to the ships (2-4 weeks).

If you order any of these, make sure they come with a socket base
