Ladies and Gents,

I have a franken compressor Quincy 325 Roc 14 that I am finally getting hooked up and in a position to use.

I fired it off and she chugs nicely right on up to a system pressure of 75psi where the interstage pop off valve (set for 75psi from the factory per the manuals) lets go. I don't know what the issue is.

The pop off valve is located on the inter cooler between the low and high pressure pistons.

I have oil pressure in the 40psi range with fresh oil in it.

I don't know what to do or what my problem is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My guess (emphasis on guess) would be that there is some sort of blockage at the intake valve on the high pressure cylinder. This would cause an abundance of pressure between the two sides. I'd start by giving all the valves a thorough inspection and cleaning.

Maybe Your popoff is worn out or just a cheap one. Replace it with a Quailty part.
Becarful I dont know what your tank can handle, they can Explode like a bomb.
Quincy makes great compressors.

You most likely have a broken high pressure inlet valve.

The seat could be worn, there might be a piece of crud from the interstage holding it open, the guide may be worn letting the disc move sideways a little.

Least likely is a faulty interstage relief valve. Put a gauge on a 1/4" NPT ****** and see what the pressure is doing. If it goes above 75PSI, the relief valve is not the problem.

At any rate, the problem is in the HP cylinder, since a LP problem would result in low interstage pressure and low air output.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I will dig into the HP inlet and exhaust valves next time I get the chance. After hearing your different thoughts I am convinced that I have a valve issue too.

I doubt that I have pop-off valve issue as my tank gauge is reading 75psi just as the valve starts yelling at me.

Also, the tank has a data plate on it stating 200psi. I have no intentions to run the tank pressure above 175 and will likely keep it around 150-160.

Thanks and I will report back.
